Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla of the Indian Air Force has been appointed as the pilot for Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) to the International Space Station (ISS), scheduled for launch no earlier than spring 2025. This mission, a collaboration between NASA and Axiom Space, will be commanded by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson. Shukla, a seasoned test pilot with over 2,000 flight hours across various aircraft, was previously selected for ISRO's Gaganyaan mission. The Ax-4 crew also includes mission specialists Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary. Once docked, the private astronauts plan to spend up to 14 days aboard the orbiting laboratory, conducting a mission consisting of science, outreach, and commercial activities.
