ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has unveiled INFP, an advanced AI system designed to animate static portrait images, enabling them to "speak" and respond to audio inputs. INFP operates through a two-step process: first, it analyzes facial expressions and head movements from real conversation videos to extract motion data; then, it uses this data to generate natural motion patterns guided by audio input, resulting in lifelike animations with synchronized lip movements and facial expressions. The system was trained using DyConv, a specialized dataset comprising over 200 hours of high-quality conversation videos, enhancing its ability to replicate realistic speech patterns and gestures. Currently, INFP supports audio input, but ByteDance plans to expand its capabilities to include image and text inputs, aiming to create full-body animated characters in the future. To mitigate potential misuse, access to INFP's core technology will be restricted to research institutions.
