BigID's data intelligence platform enables organizations to know their enterprise data and take action for privacy, security, and governance. Customers deploy BigID to proactively discover, manage, protect, and get more value from their regulated, sensitive, and personal data across their data landscape. BigID has been recognized for its data intelligence innovation as a 2019 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, named to the 2021 Forbes Cloud 100, the 2021 Inc 5000 as the #19th fastest growing company and #1 in Security, a Business Insider 2020 AI Startup to Watch, and an RSA Innovation Sandbox winner.
Key Facts
In an era where data breaches and cyber threats are a constant concern, privacy and protection regulations are constantly evolving, and security is in the spotlight, it’s more important than ever to find the right solution to manage and protect sensitive data.
"Now more than ever, organizations need clearcut ways to harness their data to drive innovation while also remaining compliant and secure," said Varoon Bhagat, Vice President of Corporate Development for Splunk.
Data drives the world and as digital transformation and cloud initiatives continue to accelerate, BigID's modern approach to data management is purpose-built to address the challenges of today and the data landscape of the future.
By leveraging BigID’s patented ML (Machine Learning) and AI techniques, automating manual processes, and embracing an open ecosystem, customers can proactively discover, manage, and protect their regulated, sensitive, and personal data across their data landscape while accelerating actionable insights.
BigID is an innovator in data intelligence, with an ML-powered enterprise platform that reimagines data management for data discovery, security, privacy, governance, and compliance.
The foundation of the BigID Data Intelligence Platform is its detailed, automated data analysis and discovery capability that identifies and manages metadata and data at scale – across any data type, wherever that data is stored.
BigID is uniquely qualified to identify where a customer’s PII (personally identifiable information) and PI (personal information) sits due to its cutting-edge entity association technology which allows data to be associated with an individual or entity.
The company’s technology combines leading machine learning classification and correlation techniques to provide context around the data itself: whose it is, where it is, what it is. The core catalog leverages machine learning for labeling and discovery, deeper insights into data values, neighboring data relationships, and locations of duplicate or similar data.
Building upon that foundation, BigID provides core applications that can be added modularly to automate data management across data compliance, privacy, security, and governance.
BigID helps customers proactively manage and protect their data, reduce risk, and get more value from their data. With BigID, customers can make better decisions with their data, achieve compliance, scale with evolving data privacy and protection landscape, and ultimately reimagine how they manage their data.
BigID’s platform functions by having customers connect all their data sources—from data warehouses like Snowflake and SaaS tools like Salesforce to raw CSV files, Github repositories, and more. BigID then scans across all the data for PII and classifies and indexes it so teams can manage accordingly.
BigID’s platform enables organizations to track which employees are accessing sensitive data and where, but it also employs machine learning algorithms to surface what data is most critical to the organization while ensuring it is privacy compliant.
The BigID platform offers Data Governance, Data Discovery, Data Classification, Data Privacy and Compliance, and Data Security and Protection.
Data Governance: BigID enables data governance by providing comprehensive data discovery, classification, inventory, quality assessment, access control, and lineage capabilities to ensure visibility, understanding, and control over data assets throughout their lifecycle.
Data Discovery: BigID can automatically discover all types of sensitive data across various data repositories, including structured and unstructured data, cloud storage, and file systems. BigID employs advanced data discovery techniques using machine learning and artificial intelligence to identify and classify sensitive data across diverse data sources.
Data Classification: BigID can classify and tag sensitive data based on predefined or custom policies, which helps organizations understand the nature of their data and comply with data protection regulations.
Data Privacy and Compliance: BigID helps organizations comply with data protection regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA, by identifying and managing sensitive data and ensuring it is properly protected.
Data Security and Protection: BigID offers advanced data protection features, such as data access controls, data masking, and data encryption, to help organizations protect their sensitive data from unauthorized access and breaches.
BigID’s platform integrates with various data sources, including databases, file systems, cloud storage, and collaboration platforms, enabling organizations to apply data privacy controls and policies across their entire data ecosystem.
BigID follows a SaaS subscription-based pricing model, where customers pay a recurring fee for accessing and using the BigID platform. BigID pricing is based on a combination of factors, including the number of data sources, apps, and connectors, deployment type, and level of services and support.
Companies pay based on the number of team members using BigID’s software, the amount of data in their systems being scanned, and the need for advanced features like white-labeled reports and unlimited requests.
According to Sacra research, BigID generated approximately $75 million in revenue in 2022, up 48% compared to approximately $50 million in revenue in 2021.
According to VentureBeat in December 2020, CEO Dimitri Sirota said, “Despite its current valuation, however, it will probably be at least another five to six years before the company goes public. He said BigID has also turned down multiple acquisition offers as it advances toward that goal.”
In March 2023, BigID became the first and only Data Security Posture Management Solution to offer native integrations with leading Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) platforms. BigID's native integrations with SOAR platforms, including Splunk, Palo Alto Networks, and Torq, provide customers with access to thousands of pre-built playbooks, enabling them to automate the incident response process from detection to remediation. With these native orchestrations, customers can seamlessly manage and automate their security response workflows, reducing response time and improving overall security posture.
In April 2023, BigID announced the launch of BigAI, a new large language model (LLM) designed to scan and classify enterprises’ data to optimize their security and enhance risk management initiatives. BigAI enables organizations to scan structured and unstructured data whether stored in the cloud or on-premises, using a mix of ML-driven classification and generative AI to suggest titles and descriptions for data tables, columns, and clusters so they’re easier to locate via search. One of the elements that makes this launch notable is BigAI’s use of a privacy-by-design approach, which enables the LLM to process an organization’s data with the vendor’s own private models and servers without exposing anything to public models. “BigAI basically embraces generative AI capabilities: adapting the latest in generative to help you know your data — and control your data. Data is messy — BigAI helps make sense of that data: faster, more accurately, and securely,” said CEO Dimitri Sirota in an email to VentureBeat. “BigID is the only solution that’s built on deep data discovery; it’s able to adapt generative AI and make data easier to find, understand and ultimately protect.”
